FAQ's

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What equipment is needed to play lacrosse?

Girls need: Lacrosse goggles, Lacrosse stick, Mouthpiece, Cleats

Boys need: Helmet, Lacrosse stick, Mouthpiece, Shoulder pads, Elbow pads, Gloves, Cup, Cleats

When are tryouts?
Tryouts for both boys and girls high school teams are January 21st at 10:00AM on the main football field (turf field) at Sequoyah High School. Any high school student interested in playing Spring Lacrosse must be present on this date.

Can 8th graders come to tryouts?
If there is a need for 8th graders to play on our JV teams we will post an additional tryout date, after the high school tryouts are completed. It would most likely take place the day after high school tryouts, on January 22nd. Please watch our social media accounts and this website for more information. If you do not see any information posted about 8th graders trying out, then we are not in need of any additional players at this time. Please do not have your 8th grader show up to the high school tryouts. They will not be allowed to participate on that day.

When do practices start?

They start immediately following tryouts and then run every day, Mon-Fri, immediately after school throughout the season.

What are the dues?
Cherokee County has set Lacrosse dues at $600/player. In addition, we are asking for each player to raise a minimum of $150 in fundraising. We will provide you options for fundraising throughout the season.

How can I supplement my dues?
If you bring in $750 or more in sponsorships, you will owe nothing. If you bring in $500 in sponsorships, you will owe $200 in dues. If you bring in $250 in sponsorships, you will owe $400 in dues. If you bring in nothing in sponsorships, you will owe $600 in dues and we ask for you to raise $150 in fundraising. We are probably the only sports program that allows you to fully supplement your dues with sponsorships.

How do I get sponsorships?

Print off the sponsorship packet on this website under the "documents" tab. Take it into local businesses and ask them to sponsor your player. Collect their information on the back page of the packet and turn it in with their sponsorship check or have them mail it in to the school address. (All this information is in the packet) Be sure they fill in who they want the sponsorship to benefit on the last page, so we can be sure to credit your player's account accordingly.

Who can we accept sponsorships from?
You can receive sponsorships from anyone who wants to give one. However, we cannot advertise for medical facilities due to the Cherokee County contracts with Cherokee Northside Hospital. However, Orthodontists, Oral Surgeons, Massage Therapists, and Chiropractors are totally fine and we can advertise for them. We also cannot advertise for religious or political groups. If any of these still want to sponsor us, we can accept their money, we just can't offer them anything in return.

How do I pay my dues?
Click on the "Login" button at the top of this page if you already have an account. If you do not have an account, click the "register" button at the top of this page. Then follow the instructions to register for the appropriate team. When you get to the payment page, you have two options. 1) You can pay by credit card and incur the credit card fee right then and there, or 2) You can click on the drop down arrow in payment method options and choose to pay by "check". If paying by "check" method, please mail your check to the Sequoyah Lacrosse 4485 Hickory Road, Canton, GA 30115 or watch your emails for dates when board members will be at practices to collect them and bring it then.

I've paid my dues by check already, but how do I register?
Click on the "Login" button at the top of this page if you already have an account. If you do not have an account, click the "register" button at the top of this page. Then follow the instructions to register for the appropriate team. When you get to the payment page, click on the drop down arrow in payment method options and choose to pay by "check". This will ensure you are not charged again.

I heard we have to do some fundraising, what's involved?
Yes. We are asking that everyone fundraise an additional $150 above their dues. All fundraising dollars go directly back into the program to ensure the players and coaches have what they need. You can do this through sponsorships, as listed above, or through additional fundraisers we have throughout the season.

If I don't want to participate in fundraising, can I just make a donation?
Yes. You can write a check to "Sequoyah Lacrosse" and send it in or you can click on the "Make a donation" graphic at the top of this page and contribute online. Either way, please be sure to note the player's account you would like credited for the donation.

When do games start?
Please see the "schedules" tab on this website for detailed game schedules.

Is conditioning required?
No. Conditioning is not required, however, it is highly recommended and gives you more time in front of your coach, allowing them to get to know you better. Players in another sport during conditioning season do not have to attend.

When does conditioning start?
It can vary per program. Boys roughly start in October. Girls roughly start in November. Both teams condition multiple times per week during the Fall and into January of each year.

I offered to help with parking lot duties, what do I do next?

On the date you signed up for, arrive by 5pm to the ticket booth outside the main football gate in the Junior lot. Tell them you are there to help with parking lot duties for the Lacrosse team. They will provide you with the information you need to know and a money bag for collection. You then go to that entrance and collect money as drivers enter. At half-time (roughly 8pm) bring the money bag and signs posted at the entrance you are on back to the football ticket booth to turn in. You can then either stay and enjoy the game or go home.

How does helping with parking lot duties help the Lacrosse team?
All parking lot money collected is divided up between the teams that volunteer to help. Each time we volunteer, and each location, is counted for us. At the end of the season when the tallies are made, the school divides up the money and puts our portion into our school account. That school account is then used to pay for our buses, referees and gate keepers. If there is any money left (which there usually is not) coaches can use it towards the purchase of uniforms and equipment. Anything not covered by the school account is then paid for directly out of the booster club funds.
